"How much is this going to cost me?" It's the first question every homeowner asks, and it's a fair one. The honest answer is: it depends. Not because we're dodging the question, but because pool service pricing is based on real factors that change from pool to pool.
What Affects Pool Service Pricing
The biggest factor is the size of your pool. A small backyard plunge pool takes less time, fewer chemicals, and less equipment wear than a large in-ground pool with a spa attached. Surface area, water volume, and the complexity of the pool all matter.
Pool condition plays a big role too. A well-maintained pool that just needs weekly upkeep is straightforward. A neglected pool with green water, staining, or scaling from Utah's hard water needs more work upfront to bring it back to healthy condition before regular service can begin.
Location and Travel
We serve four counties across northern Utah — Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Summit. Pools within our core service routes are the most cost-effective because we're already in the area. Pools in more remote locations or outside our main routes may have a travel fee, and we'll always tell you about that upfront.
Summit County is a good example. Park City and Heber are gorgeous places to have a pool or hot tub, but the drive from the Wasatch Front means service calls take longer. We factor that into pricing so there are no surprises.
Service Frequency
Weekly service during swimming season is the standard recommendation for Utah pools. Some homeowners opt for bi-weekly to save money, which can work if the pool is covered, has low tree exposure, and isn't used heavily. But bi-weekly pools tend to need more chemical correction each visit, so the savings aren't always as big as you'd expect.
One-time services — like green pool recovery, seasonal opening/closing, or equipment repairs — are priced per job based on what's needed.
Utah-Specific Cost Factors
- Hard water: Utah's high calcium content means more chemical adjustments and periodic acid washes to prevent scaling. This is a real ongoing cost that many out-of-state pricing guides don't account for.
- Cottonwood season: Mid-June through early July, extra skimming and filter cleaning may be needed. Some customers add mid-week visits during the worst weeks.
- Altitude: Higher elevation areas like Draper, Alpine, and Park City have different evaporation rates and UV exposure, affecting chemical consumption.
- Winter: If you keep your pool open year-round (some heated pool owners do), off-season service is less frequent but still necessary.
What to Watch for When Comparing Quotes
Not all pool service quotes are apples-to-apples. Some companies quote a low monthly rate but don't include chemicals — which can add significant cost per month depending on your pool. Others include chemicals but send a different technician every time, which means nobody really knows your pool's patterns.
When comparing, ask: Does the price include chemicals? Will the same tech come every time? What happens if there's a problem between visits? Is there a contract or can you cancel anytime? These details matter more than the bottom-line number.
Our Approach
We give custom quotes because we'd rather be accurate than cheap. We come look at your pool, assess the size, condition, equipment, and surroundings, and give you a number that covers everything — including chemicals. Same techs every visit, no contracts, cancel anytime.
